ALERT FOR RINGWORM OUTBREAK IN HAIRDRESSERS AND BARBERSHOPS IN SPAIN, HOW TO FIGHT IT?

These days, the Spanish Academy of Dermatology is warning through all available media of a RINGWORM OUTBREAK in hairdressers and barbershops in Spain that mainly affects the youngest, mainly males, due to the current trend of shaved and degraded hair, being this group the ones who most frequently go to the salons.

This is due to the use of cutting machines and other tools without proper disinfection between each service, causing this condition to spread rapidly.

Therefore, Beardburys joins the fight against this infection!

First of all, do you know what RINGWORM is?

Ringworm is a skin infection, especially in young children, caused by a fungus that appears as one or more rashes on different parts of the body, mainly reddish in colour, causing itching and flaking, and sometimes even inflammation, pain and fever. It can also cause hair loss in specific areas of the scalp (bald patches).

There are different types of ringworm, but the one that is currently shaking up teenagers in Spain is ringworm of the scalp.

Is there a treatment for ringworm? Of course there is. After consulting your doctor, he or she will carry out the necessary tests to determine the diagnosis and treatment to be followed.

Why does it appear?

Ringworm is caused by a fungus, especially in areas with warm, humid climates; or even if the person has frequently wet skin, such as from sweating; or with lesions on the skin, nails and scalp.

Ringworm can be transmitted when you come into contact with a person or pet that has previously contracted the infection or if you touch infected material such as combs, razors, clothing, or other surfaces that have not been disinfected.

However, according to specialists from the Spanish Academy of Dermatology, for the last two years adolescents have been contracting this infection to an increasing extent due to the use of blades and other utensils that have been incorrectly disinfected and/or not taking all the measures in force to disinfect the material, causing it to spread rapidly among the population.

How can I avoid it?

So that you, your team or your salon clients do not have to deal with this infection, the most important thing is to DISINFECT all surfaces and the cutting or styling machines and tools you use in your salon.

You can do this by following the steps below before each service:

HAIR WASHING PROTOCOL

1. LIFTS IMPURITIES - FREEZE

Apply the Freeze conditioner, which thanks to its moisturising power helps to lift dirt and impurities from the scalp.

2. DEEP CLEANSES WITH THE VITAL SHAMPOO

We apply the Vital shampoo, with exfoliating power that cleanses in depth helping to drag the dirt and impurities that we have previously lifted with the Freeze conditioner.

3. CLIENT TREATMENT - SPECIFIC SHAMPOO

We will apply a specific shampoo (fall, grease, dandruff, neutral, refreshing...) to finish the previous shampooing.

TOOLS AND UTENSILS

Scissors, combs, and other basic tools in salons can be a source of ringworm infection. To disinfect them:

1.  In the steriliser jug, dilute Limoseptol Barber & Hairdresser Disinfectant Liquid at a ratio of 10 ml of liquid per 1 litre of water.

2. Put your hairdressing materials and utensils previously rinsed with water or cleaned with a cloth into the jug to disinfect them, and take them out after 10 minutes with the help of the removable draining basket, and dry them.

CUTTING MACHINES

Cutting machines are the most relevant at the moment as they are the ones with which we carry out the cuts and degradations, where if we do not clean the blades it is easy for the infection to be transmitted. To avoid this:

1.  Before each service, disinfect and clean your cutting tools by shaking the 5in1 Spray and spraying it onto the head of your machine.

2.  Turn on your machine so that the product can spread properly, and cool, disinfect, lubricate, clean and apply an anti-rust coating.

SURFACES

With the help of the disinfectant spray, remove any traces of disinfectant from your salon surfaces, such as armchairs or head washers after each service.

1.  Before applying the disinfectant spray, clean all surfaces so that it does not mix with any other chemical products.

2.  Then spray it on the surfaces and let it dry. You can also put it in the Beardburys Streamer Gun, and spread it quickly and easily on all surfaces in your salon or barbershop.

OTHER QUICK MEASURES

In addition, to avoid any direct contact and the rapid transmission of this infection, other measures recommended for each service offered are:

-   Use of disposable gloves

-   Disposable capes

-   Disposable towels

-   Hydroalcoholic gel
