Seasonal hair loss usually occurs during the fall, beginning in late September or early October and usually lasts between 1 and 2 months.
This seasonal hair loss is related to the renewal of the follicular cycle, by which the hair renews itself. The hair cycle has 3 main phases, let's delve a little deeper, if you want to know more read on.
Each hair is a different world and evolves independently, but they all comply with the following stages:
1. GROWTH OR ANAGEN PHASE
In this phase the follicle is healthy, the hair is maintained and its longevity determines its length. It usually lasts between 2 and 8 years.
2. TRANSITION OR CATAGEN PHASE
The hair stops growing and, therefore, the follicle changes shape. This phase lasts approximately three to four weeks.
3.TRANSITION OR CATAGEN PHASE
The follicle rests, the hair begins to fall out, this phase lasts 2 to 3 months. Once this phase is over, the growth phase begins again.
There are several different theories as to the causes of seasonal hair loss, but at present there is no generalized opinion among the scientific community as to the veracity of these theories.
Many experts connect it to the seasonal shedding process of mammalian hair, while others relate it to the light and dark hours that influence hormonal balance.
What we do know is that hydrating it, using a redensifying shampoo, protecting it from high temperatures and visiting your trusted hairdresser frequently will help to keep our hair healthy.
